The Enchantment of Chester Zoo

An evil sorcerer cast a spell on Chester Zoo, trying to steal the super powers of nocturnal animals. Visitors during Halloween had until dusk to break the spell.

In autumn 2016, Wild Rumpus partnered with Chester Zoo to present an extraordinary adventure for families – The Enchantment of Chester Zoo. It was the zoo’s first ever large scale Halloween event, as a host of performers, musicians, aerialists and acrobats welcomed families to the visitor attraction.

The major Chester Zoo spectacular helped to reveal the remarkable natural super powers of some of the zoo’s most mysterious species.

From 22 – 31 October, families at the zoo met a cavalcade of curious animal characters with incredible skills – from wise old owls to acrobatic spiders!

Visitors had to keep their wits about them on a journey through the newly enchanted zoo, as they met the inspirational animal characters before discovering the real life nocturnal animals as families explored the dark fruit bat forest, searched for the nocturnal aye-ayes in their shadowy habitat and discovered the magnificent Montserrat tarantula.
