Call For Artists :: Interactive Illuminated Costumes for The Lanterns at Chester Zoo

The Lanterns is Chester Zoo’s main Christmas event, running from 23 November to 23 December 2018. An audience of 80,000 will visit The Lanterns to experience a beautiful festive journey of light, lanterns, costumed animal characters and beautiful installations.

Wild Rumpus are looking to commission several artists/groups to create illuminated, interactive Snail, White Rabbit, Emu, Giraffe, Penguin and Reindeer Costumes and Woodland Puppets for this year’s Lanterns.

Artists are invited to bid for different costumes although for those that require multiples (e.g. giraffe, emus), we expect to commission the same artist to create the whole set. These costumes don’t need to be identical, though the set should feel cohesive and in keeping with each other.

How to apply

Please send your proposals to by Friday 20th July, 5pm. Your proposal should include initial sketches, proposed materials, details of how the lighting will be incorporated and how the costume will provide an interactive experience for the audience.
